META PULS · Düsseldorf

Düsseldorf.

The Königsallee and the Rhine. Rebuilt to the metre.

I

The light of the Kö

Evening on the Königsallee: the Kö-Graben down the middle, fed by the Düssel, and the shops under the plane trees and chestnuts.

51.2215° N · 6.7795° E

This is not a picture of Düsseldorf. It is the Königsallee, built on the real map: all 77 buildings to the official survey, every tree where it grows, every shop under its own name, and the Rhine beyond. Walk it, buy a lot beside it, build on it.

Get the highlights.

The Kö from above, the canal between the trees.
The Tritonenbrunnen, at the head of the Kö-Graben.
The Königsallee, every shop under its real name.
META PULS HOF. Boutiques around the plaza.
A seat for every ticket at the Merkur Spiel-Arena.
The Rhine, long after dark.

Tritonenbrunnen

Friedrich Coubillier’s Triton wrestles a fish on the rocks at the north end of the Kö-Graben. The avenue was laid out in 1804 on the line of the old town moat and named Königsallee in 1851.

St. Lambertus

Basilica minor · Altstadt

Consecrated in 1394. After a fire in 1815 the spire was rebuilt, and, probably because the timber was still wet, it twisted. After the war it was rebuilt twisted again, as the people of Düsseldorf wished.
